Day 1. DEPARTURE CITY-MALAGA: Overnight flight to Europe.
Day 2. MALAGA - TORREMOLINOS: Upon arrival, continue with a short bus ride to Malaga, city established almost 3000 years ago. See the Cathedral and Plaza Mercedes, where famous painter Pablo Picasso was born. Then to Torremolinos and your beach front hotel.
Day 3. TORREMOLINOS: Explore Torremolinos which first attracted crowds in 1498 when the Catholic kings and their vast number of troops camped here during the siege of Málaga. The town evolved as a thriving center for fishing, primarily centered on La Carihuela, an area just east of town where a few bona-fide fishermen still remain, and a source of the best seafood restaurants en La Costa.
Day 4. TORREMOLINOS - GRANADA -TORREMOLINOS: Travel through Sierra Nevada and view the cliff houses where people still inhabit these caves en route to Granada, the former capital of the Moorish Kings. Your local guide will walk you through Alhambra, considered as the most beautiful palace built by the Moors. Then continue to Generalife Garden, amazing park with numerous fountains. Then visit the Cathedral. Late return to Torremolinos.
Day 5. PUERTO BANUS - GIBRALTAR -SEVILLE: Travel along the Costa del Sol to Gibraltar, the impressive Rock, for a guided tour that includes: St. Michael’s Caves, the Apes Den, Moorish Castle and the Garrison Chapel. Transfer through central Andalusia to Seville. In the late afternoon, join your tour director on a walking tour inside the walls.
Day 6. SEVILLE: Guided city tour of the famous “Gypsy town” also known as the “Carmen City”. The city sits well inland, but a mere 6 meters above sea level. In the past Seville was an important seaport, prior to the silting up of the Guadalquivir. From Seville, Ferdinand Magellan obtained the ships for his circumnavigation. Much of the Spanish Empire's silver from the New World came to Europe in the Spanish treasure fleets that landed in Seville. In the evening, see a Flamenco show.
Day 7. SEVILLE - MADRID: Early morning departure from Seville and transfer to Madrid. Upon arrival, transfer to your centrally located hotel, after a short break join your tour director on a walking tour along Gran Via, the main artery of the Spanish capital. Discover Puerta del Sol and the Opera district.
Day 8. MADRID: Start with a guided city tour. See/Visit: Retiro Park, Puerta del Sol, Gateway to the Sun, kilometer zero from which all the country’s road distances are measured, the Opera, and the beautiful parks and plazas. Continue on to Plaza Mayor, Plaza de la Villa, Basilica de San Miguel, Capilla del Obispo, the only Gothic temple in Madrid, Palacio Real, and Palacio de Congresos. Then visit the famous Prado Museum, a Neo-Gothic building from the 18th century, housing masterpieces by Velasquez, Goya, Murillo, and Ribera as well as Flemish and Italian works.
Day 9. MADRID - TOLEDO - MADRID: A short ride to nearby Toledo, the former capital of the Spanish Kingdom, known as the “Pink City” and famous for its red colored walls. Discover the Moorish art of Damascene, made famous by local artisians. Visit / see: El Greco House, The Cathedral, Alcazar, Synagog de Santa Maria la Blanca, Puente del Alcantar and Santo Tome Church. An afternoon return to Madrid allows for free time.
Day 10. DEPARTURE: Prepare to leave Spain to return home.
